Yemen’s Houthis claim responsibility for drone attack on Israeli airport

Yemeni group vows to ‘escalate’ attacks, warning that Israeli airports ‘are unsafe’ and will continue to be targeted.

Yemen’s Houthi group has claimed responsibility for a drone strike against Israel’s Ramon Airport near the Red Sea city of Eilat that injured two people.

The attack on Sunday, which targeted the arrivals hall, had halted operations at the air port for around two hours

“A drone targeted Ramon Airport, which, by Allah’s grace, directly hit the airport and caused the airport to shut down and halt air traffic,” Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree said in a statement.

He added that the attack was part of a broader drone operation that also targeted other sites in southern Israel.

Saree vowed that the Houthis will “escalate” their attacks against Israel in support of Palestinians in Gaza.

“The Yemeni Armed Forces assure all air navigation companies that the airports inside occupied Palestine are unsafe and will be continuously targeted,” he said.

Earlier, the Israeli military said the air force had intercepted three drones launched from Yemen. It said two were “intercepted prior to crossing into Israeli territory”, but did not elaborate on the status of the third.

The Israeli newspaper Haaretz, citing the Israeli rescue services, reported that two people were lightly wounded in the drone strike.

A 63-year-old man was injured by shrapnel, and a 52-year-old woman was injured after she fell. It said emergency workers evacuated them to a hospital in Eilat, while others who suffered panic attacks received medical care at the scene.

Israeli Army Radio reported that a preliminary investigation into the damage at the air port indicated the drone had not been spotted by the air force’s detection systems at all.

صنعا/یروشلم: یمن کے حوثی گروپ نے اسرائیل کے ریمون ایئرپورٹ (ایلات شہر کے قریب، بحیرہ احمر کے کنارے واقع) پر ڈرون حملے کی ذمہ داری قبول کرلی ہے، جس میں دو افراد زخمی ہوئے۔

یہ حملہ اتوار کے روز ایئرپورٹ کے "آرائیول ہال" کو نشانہ بنا کر کیا گیا، جس کے باعث تقریباً دو گھنٹے تک ایئرپورٹ کی پروازیں معطل رہیں۔

حوثی فوجی ترجمان یحییٰ سریع نے اپنے بیان میں کہا: "اللہ کے فضل سے ڈرون نے ریمون ایئرپورٹ کو براہِ راست نشانہ بنایا، جس کے بعد فضائی ٹریفک معطل ہوگئی۔"

انہوں نے بتایا کہ یہ حملہ جنوبی اسرائیل کے دیگر مقامات پر کیے گئے ایک بڑے ڈرون آپریشن کا حصہ تھا۔ ترجمان نے خبردار کیا کہ فلسطینی عوام کی حمایت میں اسرائیل پر حملوں میں مزید شدت لائی جائے گی۔

انہوں نے مزید کہا: "یمنی مسلح افواج تمام فضائی کمپنیوں کو یقین دلاتی ہیں کہ مقبوضہ فلسطین کے اندر ایئرپورٹس غیر محفوظ ہیں اور انہیں مسلسل نشانہ بنایا جاتا رہے گا۔"

اسرائیلی فوج نے اس سے قبل دعویٰ کیا کہ یمن سے داغے گئے تین ڈرونز کو روکنے کی کوشش کی گئی۔ فوج کے مطابق دو ڈرون اسرائیلی حدود میں داخل ہونے سے پہلے ہی مار گرائے گئے، تاہم تیسرے کے بارے میں کوئی تفصیل نہیں دی گئی۔

اسرائیلی اخبار ہارٹز کے مطابق ریسکیو سروسز نے بتایا کہ ایک 63 سالہ شخص ڈرون کے شریپنل سے زخمی ہوا جبکہ 52 سالہ خاتون گرنے کے باعث زخمی ہوئیں۔ دونوں کو ایلات کے اسپتال منتقل کیا گیا جبکہ کئی افراد کو خوف اور گھبراہٹ کے باعث موقع پر ہی طبی امداد دی گئی۔

اسرائیلی آرمی ریڈیو نے رپورٹ کیا کہ ابتدائی تحقیقات کے مطابق ڈرون ایئر فورس کے ڈیٹیکشن سسٹم پر نظر ہی نہیں آیا تھا، جس کے نتیجے میں ایئرپورٹ براہِ راست متاثر ہوا۔
